The Retina Network

Wison’s Next Frontier: Scalable Retina Network Infrastructure

The Retina Network: The Core of Wison’s Architecture

Wison’s platform is built upon a distributed network of nodes, called Retina Nodes, which collectively form the Retina Network. The purpose of the Retina Network is to provide a peer-to-peer, distributed, and horizontally scalable node service. These nodes work alongside indexers and various advanced technologies, creating an ideal blend of streaming, blockchain, and virtualization to deliver a robust, future-proof experience.

Controlled Network Access

Access to the Retina Network will be restricted within the Wison ecosystem. This means third-party developers will not be able to run nodes or access the network. This decision has been made to ensure the platform is equipped with a sufficient number of nodes, all hosted and managed by the Wison team and its partners. By maintaining control over the network, Wison can effectively manage sudden spikes in demand, preventing node shortages that could impact the platform’s ability to scale horizontally.

At Wison, we are dedicated to sustaining a robust infrastructure by ensuring a sufficient number of Retina Nodes are always up and running, providing uninterrupted service as the platform grows.

Retina Node Development Programs

Currently, Wison has two active development programs for the Retina Nodes:

Retina Node v1.0.0

The Retina Node v1.0.0 is built using well-established technologies such as UDP, TCP, DTLS, SCTP, and sockets, all of which have well-defined capabilities and vast ecosystems. The Retina Network will launch with this type of node, which, although based on mature technologies, is still highly efficient and perfectly aligned with Wison’s goals. It will provide a highly immersive user experience with a focus on security, privacy, and scalability—essential elements of the future Wison envisions.

Retina Node v2.0.0

The Retina Node v2.0.0 is currently under active research and development and is built on the latest internet communication protocol: QUIC. QUIC has already proven to be one of the most efficient communication protocols, offering minimal latency and superior performance. Although QUIC is still gaining widespread adoption, Wison is dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible by integrating this next-generation protocol into its nodes.

While the v1.0.0 nodes will provide the necessary foundation for the platform, v2.0.0 represents Wison’s commitment to innovation and future-readiness. The Wison team is also developing custom libraries and modules to maximize the potential of this new protocol, while still upholding the core principles of the platform.

In the future, Wison plans to open source these custom libraries and modules to contribute to the broader community and help advance the development of the QUIC ecosystem. However, this is a long-term goal that will come after the platform is stabilized and fully operational.

Future Plans for Network Accessibility

At Wison, we are committed to developing and delivering the most immersive platform for our users. Our continuous efforts in advancing this technology have led to the creation of a highly advanced infrastructure designed exclusively for Wison’s purpose. The decision to offer this infrastructure for public use will be dynamic and dependent on Wison’s growth and the response of our ecosystem. For now, our primary focus remains on providing a smart, immersive streaming platform.
